Head of Governance (Part-Time)
Macquarie Park, Sydney | Hybrid | $180 - $190K (Pro-rata) + Super + Bonus
Part-Time (3days per week with potential to extend)

A rare opportunity to lead with impact—without sacrificing balance.

At Journey Early Learning, we believe the best outcomes for children are created in environments that are safe, secure, and deeply connected.
Behind every great centre is a strong, well-run organisation. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Head of Governance to help ensure the way we operate is clear, consistent, and built for the future.

This is a part-time leadership opportunity that offers something rare— the chance to take true ownership of a critical function, while maintaining flexibility and balance.

About the Opportunity
This is not a traditional governance role.
You won’t sit on the sidelines. You’ll work within the business, alongside our Managing Director and leadership team, to embed governance, risk, and legal frameworks into the rhythm of how we operate.
With strong foundations already in place, your focus will be on bringing everything together—ensuring governance is understood, applied, and enhancing decision-making across the organisation.
This is a role for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, building clarity, and making things work in practice.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

- Embedding and strengthening governance frameworks across the organisation
- Ensuring enterprise risk is visible, owned, and proactively managed
- Coordinating legal matters with a pragmatic, commercial approach
- Leading Risk & Audit Committee cadence, reporting, and outcomes
- Bringing clarity and consistency to policies, delegations, and decision-making
- Partnering with leaders to build accountability and capability across teams

Why This Role Is Different

At Journey, we are intentional about how we build roles and teams.

This opportunity offers:

- A rare part-time executive-level role with genuine scope and ownership
- Direct partnership with our Founder and Managing Director
- The chance to shape how governance works day-to-day, not just design frameworks
- A growing, multi-site organisation where your impact will be felt quickly
- Flexibility that supports balance—without reducing the significance of your work

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success is not measured by process alone—but by impact.

- Governance is clear, consistent, and embedded across the organisation
- Leaders understand their responsibilities and operate with confidence
- Risks are identified early and proactively managed
- Legal and compliance practices are structured, practical, and commercially sound
- Governance becomes an enabler of growth—not a barrier to it

About You
You’re someone who brings clarity to complexity. You enjoy working in environments where you can take ownership, influence outcomes, and make things better. You’re comfortable operating at a senior level, but equally happy being hands-on and close to the detail.

You may be:

Stepping into your first Head of-level role, or
Looking for a position that offers greater impact and flexibility

You’ll bring experience across governance, risk, legal, or compliance, along with a practical, solutions-focused mindset and the ability to build strong, trusted relationships.

Want to leverage your experience in connecting the legal to the operational and connecting with areas of the business to colloborate and execute

Why Join Journey Early Learning

At Journey, we are guided by our values of Connection, Consideration, and Communication.
We believe that:

Relationships matter—with children, families, and each other
Standards create consistency and confidence
Continuous improvement is part of who we are

We don’t aim to meet expectations—we aim to exceed them.

This role is an opportunity to be part of that journey—helping to build an organisation that delivers exceptional environments for children, supported by strong, thoughtful, and well-embedded foundations.
